Week 9 Thing 23

Wow! I made it. I wasn't really sure if I would get this done or not. I am feeling alittle quilty-I've had some time off and that has enabled me to complete this. I hope my co-workers are able to finish too.
Some of my favorites are Flickr-so much that you can do there and Library Thing. I think this will be an incredible way to keep and gather information about books that I read and want to read. I also feel that I will be using ZOHO for all my word processing projects.
This program has really opened my eyes to so many things that are available with my computer. Some I liked and some I didn't. I do feel I will be more open to at least trying things in the future. I think winter might be a better time to try and do this, with vacations and all during the summer, but I guess there is no good time in a very busy library! I could not have done this alone, so I do thank everyone that helped me out with all my silly questions!
I do see potential use for the Library and our Customers with some of this as well. I do think it will be done the road for some as there are still plenty in Carroll County that do not have computers. By having more computers in our branches, we can still help our customers become aware of all that the WEB has to offer!

Week 9 Thing 22

Audiobooks. I did establish an account with NetLibrary. There are so many books available. I am fortunate not to have a long commute to work-the downside to that is I can't listen to a book on CD. I know this is a growing area of our library. I see more and more people checking out audiobooks and I feel this is the next logical step. Unfortunatley they may not come to the library as much, but to think that they can download their book at home is quite a service. One customer says she listens when she irons, so maybe I will try that!

Week 9 Thing 21

Podcasts-another way of getting information. I have added another RSS feed to my blogline about crocheting. This does use some of the terms that we have already learned-RSS, tags etc. They do seem to all be connected in many ways. For those of us who still aren't computer savy it is just overwhelming! Maybe someday.......

Gummy Bear Song

Week 9 Thing 20

Ok- now that my daughter and I have spent almost an hour on this site-there truly is about anything you can imagine on Youtube! One thing that concerns me though is when I typed in Librarians-1800 videos came up to choose form, however when I typed in Circulation clerk-there were "zero" sites! Can you believe that. I guess all of us circ people will have to get busy and make up some videos!
There are also 969 sites on "Dinosaur fart"! I do worry about society!!!!

Baby Got Book (OFFICIAL)

This is one of my daughters favorites!

Week 8 Thing 19

It is so amazing all the info that is out there! Some quite interesting too.
I liked Pandora. I enjoy listening to music, however I am not usually at my
computer, but this could be very handy if you sat at a computer and were
able to listen to music. No commercials.
Realtravel was also very informative. Anywhere you wanted to go, you could
find out just about anything you wanted to know about the place. In or out
of the USA!
Librarything we have already visited, but I think this could somehow be used
in the library setting somehow. A way to maybe let interested patrons know
what we were reading, whats hot and share thoughts about all kinds of books!

Week 8 Thing 18

I think I will enjoy using ZOHO writer. I will also try out the spreadsheet and see if it is easier
than Excel. This is one thing that will definitely come in handy!
http://writer.zoho.com/index.do
I like the "emotion" faces that you can easily add right there too! This was very easy to use!

Week 7 Thing 17

Ok, at first I thought this was going to be difficult, but it really wasn't to bad!
Here is my link. It would be fun to share recipes and crochet patterns. If only
I had the time to read things!

Week 7 Thing 16

Wikis-ok at least this is something that I am somewhat familiar with. Since we do use it here at CCPL already. This is good for all the teamwork that we do here. It is a place that everyone can add, edit or delete. However, that might also be a downside. I think libraries could also use this with the public for book reviews and a place to put suggestions. I really liked the Booklovers and I may use the Library 2.0 in 15 minutes a day to help me with this project!!

Week 6 Thing 15

Ok, this is a lot of information. I do think Library 2.0 is something we need to be working on. Things are definitely changing. Some areas more than others. As we see technology becoming more and more a part of life, we need to remember it isn't that way for everyone. THere are many people still in Carroll county that do not have computers in their homes. The library can and should be someplace where they can have access to that, but we need to be careful not to leave these people out of other services just because they don't have the technology. A balance is something we need to strive for. We do need to be anicipating up and coming advances, lets just not jump the gun in an area where we might not still be quite there! Thats Peggys philosphy.

Week 6 Thing 14

Ok, I am not having much like-I can't get the Technorati tutorial to work either! I did read and investigate the site though. Some of this is just way to much info for me or way over my head.
The "Top Search" of the day however was Harry Potter. Go figure.
The "Top Favorited Blog" was Boing Boing-not sure what there main objective really was. however it had 2, 364 fans.
The "Top Blog" was Engadget. It was about Hovercrafts.
I guess I am just not that into spending time on the computer. Just give me a good book, or my crochet needle and I am happy!

Week 6 Thing 13

I was unable to view the del.icio.us tutorial. I will keep trying, but just kept getting an error. After reading the infor that was there I feel like my mind is going in circles! Tagging seems to make sense and should be helpful. I think del.icio.us would be useful for serious computer users. Not sure I am quite there yet!

Week 5 Thing 12

Roll this, Rollyo!

Well, here it is-not sure why it doesn't work! Next time Melanie is in, I will have to have her look at it! She is my 23 Thing expert!

Thanks once again to Melanie! She saved the day! Now it works!

Week 5 Thing 11 Library Thing catalog

I think this is one thing I could really use! I love to read, but I usually stick with my favorite authors. This seems like a place that I might find out what others are reading and why! Hopefully I will get more time to play around with this!

Week 5, Thing 10

Ok this was fun! Like playing dress-up. Just like old times. This was a much easier way to change clothes though and much more variety than we ever had growing up.

Try making one for yourself if you haven't already! At least I hope this works!

Week 4, Thing 9

Merlin is very cool. I actually have used the site some as I have taken an online class thru them.
I think this could be a very useful tool if I would make myself use it more. I did go ahead and sign up for an account so maybe that will encourage me! (Time!!!) I haven't had the time to search for to many newsfeeds. I have added one to my bloglines that I found on Topix.net. It is the local news for Manchester! Who needs the paper anymore? Think of the money I can save! Hopefully I will be able to put some of this to good use!

Saturday, July 7, 2007

Thanks for good friends!

Melanie has come to my rescue once again and helped me get my bloglines to work!
Good thing she is able to help me!
Thanks bunches!
Peggy

Week 4, Thing 8

Well, I have found this one to be far more complicated. I think it will make reading blogs easier if you only want to select certain ones. I have subscribed The Readers Club Latest reviews to help keep up with up and coming reading materials. I aslo subscribed to "Unshelved"-I figure a little humor should go a long ways. I am also going to try the "It's All Good" blog. Hopefully will have some curtain info of use.
I tried unsuccessfully to post my bloglines. It keeps telling me I have an invalid username-even though it is the same one I log in with. I will try to get help with this at a later date. Everyone is struggling to keep up. (A week vacation and now 2 weeks behind!)

Week 3-Thing 7

cards
cards,
originally uploaded by pcarper63.
I tried the Discovery exercise on Flickr and here it is. All this technology is so new to me and I am learning so much!

Week 3- Thing 6

Flickr Mashups is the ability to take one application (like Flickr) and mash it up with another (like maps). Mappr! This does give you that many more creative ways to do things, however, I like things plain and simple so it just confuses me that much more. Hopefully, I will practice and get better with all this new technology.

Week 3- Thing 5

I found Flickrto be very interesting. I'm not sure I would ever use it for anything personal.

I learned about Tags (keywords or labels) and Sets (Groups of photos that you organize by themes). It would be wonderful to be able to share photos with family, but I just wouldn't want anyone else to have access to them. I guess I am not quite ready for too much technology!

Week 2 - Thing 4

I registered my blog, however I forgot to add blogspot.com! Once again a friend told me what I had done wrong and hopefully our wonderful liaison will be able to fix it for me so that everyone else will be able to read it!

Week 2 - Thing 3

I have created this lovely blog! I did have alittle help from my friends and I appreciated it very much!

Week 1 - Thing 2

I think the hardest "habit" for me is #3-Viewing problems as challenges.
Sometimes I get overwhelmed with "problems" and if I would think of them as
challenges-it would be much better for me! Obviously I have one to work on!
I think the easiest "habit" will be #5-Create your own learning toolbox.
I love to read and am not afraid to ask for assistance or help when needed.
I am also an avid list maker so I can write out my task list with target dates with
no problem!!
All of these will be helpful!

Week 1- Thing 1

Wow! This wasn't to bad so far! This will be quite an experience for me, but I am looking forward to it! Hopefully I will learn a lot and have fun too!
